"Stafford Morris" has only existed since 2019. Before that it was called "Stafford Morris Men", but a decision by the Morris Ring allowed ladies to join the group, so Stafford has become a mixed side.
If you've never heard of Stafford Morris ; this web site is to enlighten you.
If you've heard of Stafford Morris and want to know more; this is the place for you.
What is this Web Site all about?
This web site will help you discover what makes Stafford Morris tick, (or creak, or groan, or curse).
The site will show you who we are, what we do and give you some ideas about our history.
There are details about the dances we do, our programme of events and the men and beasts involved. We even try to use this site to recruit suitable, (or even unsuitable), new members.
Who are we?
A bunch of enthusiasts of all ages, who enjoy good company, good exercise, good ale and good music. We maintain the traditions of old England by Morris Dancing, Sword Dancing, Playing, Singing and Mumming. It has, on occasions, been reported that our public displays have been found to be entertaining. We have even been invited back on several occasions, so presumably we're not too bad.
What do we actually do?
When pressed, (or better still, paid, or possibly given beer), we perform a variety of Cotswold Morris dances from several village traditions. We specialise in the Lichfield tradition from our nearby cathedral city. We usually throw in a couple of solo jigs and maybe some Sword dancing if we can find a team who have done enough practice to avoid chopping off their fingers. In the Winter months, around Christmas, we may amaze you with our (almost) traditional Mummers Play.
